Dear readers and customers,

the year 2022 will leave us into a great uncertainty.

There’s still a pandemic raging around the planet.
There’s a war going on by Russian aggressors against Ukraine, a free and independent democratic country in eastern Europe.
And there are consequences which western nations will need to take by boycotting totalitarian states like China, with another war against another independent country, Taiwan, looming at the not so distant horizon.

We’ll be honest with you, we had better times. And unfortunately it’s not possible at the moment what price we will pay for our mutual future, as it’s a huge burden for independent small companies like us to make money and stay alive through difficult and uncertain times.

Nevertheless, we are willing to adapt, no matter what difficulties may arise the next years. We are sure if we will make it to, e.g. 2025, we should have the resilience to be there for a longer time. If not, whatever. We did our best. And we’re not willing to accept an unwritten future. Yet.

As such, we will maintain and develop products which help you manage and enjoy your life. We always do this by open-source technology, we always bring our heart into them, we always strive to bring out the best with very limited resources. And we think we do this well, as you might have already read up on our “Where?” page.

For 2022 we won’t tease you with a seasonal image in our last company article of the year like we always do. The last years were hard, 2022 was a negative highlight of it all, with too much lives taken for nothing on our home territory Europe.

We wish you a Merry Christmas, that you stay healthy and can have a wonderful time with your loved ones. And also a Happy New Year: may your batteries be recharged well because we will need those energies for at least another two years.

Take care and all the best to you,
the aethyx staff

AI created cyberpunk shaman

Dear readers and customers,

we will soon start selling our own AI created merch!

What you see above is our first available motive, the cyberpunk shaman.
It’s currently in review by our distributor. We’re hoping to make it available soon on our one and only shopping site, Swag!. Just make sure to reload from time to time.

Basically, we will release what we see as “masterpieces” we were able to create through our local available hardware with Stable Diffusion. This brandnew technology is the new rage in machine created artwork styles and a strong contender against closed-sourced solutions like DALL-E, for example.

If you can’t wait you can see already what we created since the end of August here: https://deviantart.com/c1ph4/gallery. Our frontrunner cyberpunk c1ph4 did all the work and earns the credits here. We’ll tightly discuss with him what to release next.

This is true underground artwork shit right here. We love this!

Keep this in mind when you need a gift,
best wishes,
the aethyx staff

Strategy

Dear readers and customers,

we oftentimes read this strange sentence online when a new and interesting open-source project is running headlines worldwide: “What’s the business model?”

This must be one of the most stupid questions one can ask here. Really.

You should be happy, and proud, that there exists an open-source solution to a specific problem. So the really important questions you should ask from there are some like those:

Is the solution provided useful for you?
Do they offer open repositories and is the code provided there a help for your work?
Can you use the solutions instead of using proprietary technologies which eat up all your budget for your independent business?
Are open licenses used?
Do the solutions provide value for you?

Put simpler, ask yourself this: do you ask yourself what type of company produces your favourite TV streaming series? If you go to the grocery store and you are presented with a free snack for your visit, do you ask yourself if the company of these snacks is doing well? Are you a student of economics at an University? No? Good, then you should not care about the business model of a new and exciting open-source solution!

Open-source is there to be used. Maybe you won’t believe it but there exist coders and even communities of coders who don’t make a product out of you – they provide a full-fledged, working, bug-free software solution just for you for the taking!

Try it and use it! And find out if it works for you before you ask yourself stupid, unrelated and unimportant questions. Save time and do it yourself. There’s a whole world for the taking for you waiting to be discovered.

Happy testing and getting better every day,
your aethyx staff

TIme

Dear readers and customers,

as an adult, with all our responsibilities and TODOs in our daily lives, some day you might realise that it’s not power or money which is running out for you – but time itself.

Be it having time for your favourite (IT) project to do; your friends; your family; it might even be just a hobby: there is only so much we can cram into the times we are awake of one single day. And the perception when getting older is, it gets worse over time even.

But luckily, there are some workarounds you can use. These come in handy for IT projects but you can use those in your daily life as well. Like those listed here:

  • use a Kanban board: you could just use post it notes in your kitchen which state “Todos”, “In doing”, “Done”. Even your homework duties can be organised this way. As such, you keep track of your tasks easily. And you’ll never forget them anymore, we promise. Plus, there’s a certain incentive for your mind when lots and lots of notes finally appear below the “Done” note. You may also re-use notes this way, thus sparing you the effort to create new ones
  • use priorities: we recommend 1-3, indicating 1 as the highest, 3 as the lowest prioriy. Always try to do/fix/create the category 1 first. When you have time left, do the tasks for priority 2. The last one, 3, is for the really unimportant stuff, like cleaning your windows which should be sufficient 1-2 times per year. Priorities are an important part of any IT ticket system
  • throw out old stuff: yes, I know, we are humans, we like to collect stuff. But nobody is helped if your favourite LEGO set from 1989 is collecting dust in your living room for anyone to see. Try to find people who could need it more. You could also sell it via an Internet auction site. Keep your favourite LEGO set, if you wish. But believe me, it will collect dust forever anyways. Exchange LEGO here for what you liked as a kid. Look ahead, us is never helped to look back forever. In IT, we call this one refactoring or building something new from scratch

Of course there is more you can use, the examples above are all taken from our daily business. You can see it’s easily adaptable for your daily life, which is great surplus of what we do. Believe us you will live a more satisfied life if you use one or more of the mentioned techniques. Unfortunately, you might realise that time is still your most important resource, no matter what you do. But that’s just how our Universe works. And we won’t ever be able to change that one. Maybe it’s better this way.

Happy task planning and all the best to you,
the aethyx staff

RSS

Dear readers and customers,

we’re 100% pro-RSS!

We share the opinion that you as a reader should have the power to use technology to your advantage, actually RSS/Atom, and building your own feed comes in exactly here.

To show you the details about advantages/disadvantages, the background of this amazing meta web technology, as well as present you some feed readers and insights, we want to share this excellent article by indie author Andre Garzia with you:

“Old-school blogging, retro computers, and decentralisation” by Andy Garzia.

No matter if you are an expert here who uses it since the start, a starter, or someone who left the path and want to re-join now, it’s an absolute recommendation and fun to read until the end!

You can bookmark our RSS feed here: https://aethyx.eu/feed.
Hint: actually you can subscribe to all our media we produce by adding /feed/ to the URL of any project. Just remember to do this in your preferred feed reader, otherwise you just download a small harmless file to your PC.

Happy subscribing and reading,
